What can you expect at the 2020 Retreat?
  • Networking and socializing with environmental educators from across NJ.
  • Private tour of Duke Farms with overnight stay in historic cottages.
  • Workshop on Saturday - Environmental Racial Justice
  • Recap of ANJEE accomplishments since last year’s retreat.
  • Discussion of ANJEE’s Strategic Plan.
  • New volunteer opportunities.
  • Contributing to the advancement of ANJEE's mission with new ideas and partnerships.
  • National (NAAEE) and state environmental education updates.
  • Planning for our September 2020 Outdoor Conference and the 36th Annual Winter Conference in 2021.
  • Executive Board and Advisory Council business meeting.

Registration and Logistics
  • Once you are registered, a packing list and retreat agenda will be e-mailed to you.
  • Lodging for Saturday night is in one of Duke’s five comfortable cottages. All have full kitchens, shared living space, bathrooms/showers, and most have double beds.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the Farm Barn Cafe at Duke Farms. Coffee, tea, and snacks will be available throughout the weekend. Dinner on Saturday night will be out at a local restaurant TBD.

Environmental Racial Justice: 
​From Intention to Action

Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for your Environmental Organization
Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 9AM - 4PM (lunch included)​
This full day seminar is designed to be a safe space to foster brave and authentic conversations related to the intersectionality of race and environmental justice.  The seminar will encourage participants to move from a normalization of the term “environmental justice” to reconceptualize what counts as the work of environmentalism and what it means to be an environmentalist.  Participants will be exposed to critical steps needed to build transformational environmental change through respectful and intimate relationships with individuals, communities of color and indigenous nations (POCI).   

Workshop participants will:
  • Develop a common language and analysis for examining racism and an understanding of its different forms: individual, institutional, linguistic, and cultural;
  • Understand one’s own connection to institutional racism and its impact on environmentalism and environmental justice;
  •  Understand why some communities are marginalized and the role of institutions in exacerbating institutional racism, particularly for people and communities of color and indigenous nations.
  • Evaluate inclusive language (or lack of) used in program development and outreach to diverse populations within their own organizations
  • Develop a plan for creating a culture of inclusivity and a community (Board, staff, membership) that reflect the communities in which they serve

President/CEO

Yvette R. Murry is the President & CEO of YRM Consulting Group, LLC.   Her firm has over 30 years of experience providing training, executive coaching and consultation services to organizations across the globe.

The firm specializes in change management, organizational and community equity, executive and management training, stakeholder engagement & public policy. 

Yvette has partnered with non-profit organizations throughout North America, the UK, Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East.  She is affiliated with the NJ Statewide Cultural Competency Network, Georgetown National and Center for Cultural Competence.

Yvette holds a Master’s degree in Non-Profit and Public Management from Rutgers University.  She is also a fellow of the German-based Salzburg Global Center on Leadership, Harvard School of Business’s Non-Profit Executive Leadership and Governance, and a graduate of Rutgers School of Business Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.

Yvette is a master trainer and featured speaker.
